Aegir

A name occurring in Teutonic mythology. Aegir is the chief of sea-giants, and is commonly a personification of the calm open sea. He has a wife, Ran (q.v.), and nine daughters who represent together the sea’s surf and rough waves. See P. D. Chantepie de la Saussaye, Rel. of the Teutons, 1902.
