Abhidharma Sect

An early Buddhist sect in India of the School of the Hinayana. The teaching was based upon the Commentary which Katyayaniputra wrote on the Abhidharma treatises. The sect was introduced into China about 894 A.D., and flourished until about 440 A.D. A. Lloyd finds no traces of it in Japan. ABIB. The first month of the Jewish sacred year. Literally the month of " young ears of barley."
