Encyclopedia of Religion entry for

Aboth De-Rabbi Nathan

A Jewish treatise, being an exposition of the Mishnah treatise Pirqe Aboth (q.v.). Of the two recensions which have been preserved, one is usually appended to the Babylonian Talmud (see TALMUD). Both have been published together by S. Schechter. The treatise is the work of a school (Tannaite), rather than of an individual author. An English version is included in M. L. Rodkinson’s translation of the Babylonian Talmud, New York, 1900. See the Jewish Encycl., i., 1901; W. O. E. Oesterley and G. H. Box.
