Act For Uniformity

An act passed in 1549 for the purpose of introducing " uniformity of public worship." It required the new Liturgy of Edward VI. to be adopted throughout the kingdom. Refusal to comply with this command was punished by imprisonment or loss of benefice. There were other Acts of Uniformity in the reigns of Edward VI., Elizabeth, and Charles IT.
