In Aegean religion there, seems to have been nothing resembling a special religious building. Houses and palaces had small chambers or shrines. Apart from these, the worship of the gods on a large scale seems to have been pursued in the open air, or in graves, or in caves. To such places pilgrimages were made. See H. R. Hall, A.A.
